Moving Back to Jamaica

A blog about my Move Back to Jamaica after 20+ years of living in the US. Most of the articles focus on the period from 2005-2009 when the transition was new, and at it's most challenging.

Carnival 2006

So, here we are in Trinidad, and it's Saturday morning. (The "we" in this case includes my wife and best friends.)

I don't know how I'm finding time to blog, between meeting friends, liming, fete-ing, sleeping, eating and just enjoying the best that Trinidad has to offer.

So far we've been to the fete in Ortinola (sp?) and to Soca Monarch, and have just gotten hold of our costumes in Tribe.

Now we're off to lunch, in a fast hurry, and are heading to Panorama finals tonight, before Breakfast fete at 4am Sunday morning.

Phew!

How was Soca Monarch?

I have heard there was a lot of lawlessness there and very little police presence...was that your impression?

Looking forward to your report on 2006 Trini Carnival, right now Im sure your very busy just having fun and taking it all in.

Take Care

The Carnival is sweet indeed! As time goes, it seams that I am able to enjoy the Carnival differently, which is an interesting process to observe oneself go through.

Soca Monarch changed abruptly after the first 30 minutes there when they turned on the lights in the Hasely Crawford Stadium, illumninating the crowd in a harsh light.

My friend's theory is that they did that deter pickpockets.

The only incident I saw was one fellow with blood on his shirt being dragged off by police. It felt safer than most of our events in Jamaica, but that could just be because my lawlessness "radar" is on a Jamaican frequency!

If you feel that Soca Monarch was safe, then there is no way I am stepping to a JA event if you find that was safe...like someone stated, it was lawlessness !
